U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet raised more than $1.1 million last quarter, nearly 3 1/2 times more than his Democratic opponent, Andrew Romanoff.
On the Republican side for the U.S. Senate seat, Jane Norton collected more than $550,000.
The campaign for Tom Wiens, the newest Republican candidate for the Senate, said it raised more than $725,000 but declined to give any details or say how much of the money came from the candidate.
Campaign filings released Monday showed that Bennet, the Democratic incumbent, raised nearly $1,150,000 during the last three months of 2009 compared with more than $337,000 for Romanoff.
Campaign filings showed that Bennet now has raised more than $4.7 million and has about $3.5 million on hand.
“We feel very good about where we are,” said campaign manager Craig Hughes. “We are continuing to grow the number of people investing in this campaign.
Romanoff’s campaign has collected nearly $630,000 since this fall and has almost $480,000 in the bank.
The candidate said most of his money is from Coloradans .
“Contributions from individual human beings who live in the state are an indication of support,” Romanoff said in a statement.
On the Republican side, Norton’s donations last quarter were nearly 14 times more than those of Ken Buck, whose campaign netted about $40,000, according to federal filings.
Norton spokesman Nate Strauch said the campaign is on track with its fundraising.
“We’re extremely happy with where we are with fundraising right now,” Strauch said. The campaign has raised about $1.1 million overall and banked about $600,000.
Wiens’ campaign did not elaborate on the $725,000 besides saying it had about $550,000 on hand. Detailed contribution records for the period are not yet available.
“Those are the only two figures I have,” said campaign spokesman John Ransom.
Walt Klein, adviser to Buck’s campaign, said the low totals were the result of the splash Norton made when she entered the race last fall.
“It was a disappointment but not one that was unexpected,” Klein said.
The campaign has more than $276,000 on hand.
The Senate race is on pace to be one of the most expensive, if not the most, in state history.
Combined, Norton and Bennet have raised through the end of 2009 what U.S. Sen. Mark Udall, a Democrat, and Republican Bob Schaffer collected through the end of 2007. That race ended up raising about $19 million. Udall defeated Schaffer.
Bennet is ahead of Udall’s pace by about $1 million, and Norton is behind Schaffer’s pace by about the same amount.
Strauch said Schaffer began fundraising earlier in the cycle in 2007 than Norton did last year.
