State Sen. Paula Sandoval announced Monday that she will run for the vacancy on the Denver City Council created by the appointment of Councilman Rick Garcia as the new Rocky Mountain regional director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Sandoval, a Democrat, has represented northwest Denver for the past eight years in the legislature and is term-limited as a state senator. She and her husband, former State Sen. Paul Sandoval, own Tamales by La Casita Inc.
