NEDERLAND, Colo.—State officials have closed a Nederland preschool following allegations that a teacher sexually assaulted a student.
Officials at the Over the Rainbow preschool said Tuesday they are trying to talk with the Department of Human Services and are planning to appeal the closure. State officials say they have the authority to suspend a school’s license when a staffer faces sexual assault charges.
Thirty-eight-year-old Kristen Carol Barnett has been charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. A student’s mother notified authorities Dec. 10 that she suspected that a teacher was improperly touching her daughter.
