SALT LAKE CITY—Utah would ask the federal government to remove wolves in the state from the endangered species list under a measure the state Senate has passed.
Senate Bill 36 was approved Tuesday 21-8 and now advances to the House.
Removing wolves from the endangered species list would allow the state to create its own wolf management plan.
Republican Sen. Allen Christensen of North Ogden says he doesn’t want Utah to be a safe haven for the animals, which he says are dangerous predators.
Under the bill, the state would ask the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove any wolves found in protected areas in Utah.
