A 33-year-old Denver man with cerebal palsy is facing sexual assault charges for allegedly molesting and impregnating the teenaged daughter of his live-in caregiver, prosecutors said today.
The woman was taking care of Steven Dale Clark, who is confined to a wheelchair, in exchange for living with him in his apartment in the 300 block of West Ellsworth Avenue, according to the arrest affidavit.
Police were called Friday when the girl, who is now 15, “disclosed to her mother that her pregnancy was caused by Mr. Clark,” according to the investigator’s report.
The girl told police she had never consented to sex with Clark. The arrest document also states that police have investigated a report of sexual assault involving Clark and the girl before.
The assaults happened over a course of years, the Denver district attorney’s office said in a statement today.
Police reported recovering a towel on the floor of the girl’s bedroom when they were called by the girl’s mother Friday morning. The girl told investigators Clark used the towel after they had sex Thursday night.
Clark faces charges of sexual assault on a child, sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, sexual assault on a child with a pattern of abuse and sexual assault on a child by person in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse.
All of the charges are felonies. Clark is in the Denver County Jail under $75,000 bond.
