Loveland’s first baby born in 2010 is dead, and her mother is in jail.

Loveland detectives arrested Kaylynn Davis, 20, Friday on a charge of child abuse resulting in death, a class 2 felony. The infant died Jan. 25, police said.

Summer Moon Hawk was born at 11:31 a.m. New Year’s Day at McKee Medical Center. She weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces.

“We’re very excited,” Davis told The Loveland Reporter-Herald at the time. She said she wasn’t due until Jan. 7 but had always wanted a baby born on the first day of the new year because it would be extra special.

“We’re weren’t sure if it would happen,” she said.

Her fiancé, David Hawk of Loveland, sounded equally thrilled.

“We’re very happy, that’s for sure,” he told The Fort Collins Coloradoan. “We hope she grows up healthy and strong.”

The Coloradoan reported that Loveland’s New Year’s baby was dressed in a purple sparkly onesie with a ribbon in her hair, and soon would soon go home to join her older sister, 3-year-old Phoenyx.

About three weeks later, the child was dead.

Police said they started an investigation Jan. 25 after receiving a 911 call from Summer Moon’s family’s home on Cedar Drive.

Police and the Larimer County coroner’s office investigated. On Thursday, detectives met with the Larimer County district attorney’s office, and charges were formally filed. On Friday, Davis was arrested Friday andtaken to the Larimer County Detention Center on a $300,000 warrant.

No details on the cause of the baby’s death have been released. Initially, the coroner’s office reported the baby had died of pneumonia.
