The executive board of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 on Tuesday withdrew its endorsement of the union’s former attorney, Crisanta Duran, who is running for the state House of Representatives.
Union spokesman Dave Minshall said he couldn’t comment on the specific reason for the decision, but in a letter sent to Duran and obtained by The Denver Post, new union president Kim Cordova wrote that Duran’s endorsement was made through “deceitful” means.
The board’s endorsement came while Duran’s father, Ernie Duran Jr., was president of the union and Crisanta Duran was the union’s associate legal counsel.
Duran denied her endorsement process was underhanded, saying she made her case to the board as any other candidate would.
In a statement, Duran said she still has the support of more than two dozen local and international UFCW representatives.
“They know that I’m the best candidate in this race who has and will continue fighting for working families in House District 5,” Duran said. John Ingold, The Denver Post
