BOULDER, Colo.—A Boulder woman has pleaded guilty to stabbing her husband to death after an argument in which her attorney says she was defending herself.

Thirty-six-year-old Traci Housman on Friday pleaded guilty to criminally negligently homicide, a charge that carries up to three years in prison. Housman originally faced a charge of second-degree murder for the death of John Housman. She would’ve faced as many as 32 years in prison if she had been convicted of that charge.

Authorities say the couple had been drinking and arguing on Aug. 2 when the stabbing happened.

Traci Housman’s attorney says his client acted in self-defense and that her husband was threatening her.
