OMAHA, Neb.—An organization that advocates for the prevention of gun violence criticized Nebraska’s gun laws as weak.

The Washington, D.C.-based, nonpartisan Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said in a report released Thursday that only 18 states have less stringent gun laws than Nebraska.

The report rates California and New Jersey laws best.

Nebraska earned only eight out of 100 points on a scorecard measuring gun laws.

Nebraska received no points for its laws on criminal background checks for gun buyers, assault-weapon laws and efforts to curb firearm trafficking.

Nebraska fared best with its laws dealing with guns in public places.
