There’s something comforting in the melancholy of a real old-fashioned country folk-song. Legendary Texas singer-songwriter and genuine old-timer comforted the crowd at the with his poignant set on Wednesday night. , a group of Austin whipper-snappers, warmed up the room with their infectious rootsy charm.

Clark’s set was a mix of his time-honored classics like “Desperados Waiting for a Train” and new but still relevant material from his last album, “Sometimes the Song Writes You.” His guitar playing was nearly as sharp as the Texas wit that shone through his many tall tales. You leave some shows feeling lucky; this night with an American Classic was one of them. — Michael McGrath
