COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A family whose house burned in a fire in Colorado Springs say they didn’t have insurance.
The fire early Sunday burned the home of Carol and William Daily, who have custody of three grandchildren, ages 20, 17 and 14. Twenty-year-old John Michael Bornman suffered minor injuries from smoke inhalation, but everyone else escaped the house unharmed.
Seventy-one-year-old William Daily says his work as a golf course maintenance worker ended in October and he couldn’t afford insurance. He plans to return to his job in April and live in a recreational vehicle parked next to the house while he begins repairs.
William Daily says the blaze began in the basement. Firefighters were investigating the cause.
