COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A Wyoming man placed the winning bid for a Colorado Springs police helicopter that was auctioned off because of city budget cuts.
City officials say the 1968 Bell OH58-C helicopter was sold for $170,000 to Chuck Jaure of Rawlins, Wyo. The helicopter is one of two that the city is trying to auction off. Bids for the second helicopter are being accepted until Thursday.
The police department got the two OH-58C helicopters from the Department of Defense in 1995 and used them for missions including responding to wildfires, surveillance and public safety.
The helicopters were grounded in December.
