SAN ANTONIO — Former NBA all-star Alvin Robertson faces sexual assault of a child and sex trafficking charges alleging he was among seven people who kidnapped a 14-year-old girl who was forced into prostitution and made to dance at a strip club, authorities said Friday.

The seventh overall pick in the 1984 draft, Robertson averaged 14 points over 10 seasons — six with the San Antonio Spurs — and was voted to four All-Star Games.

Chargers will nontender Sproles

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Chargers decided not to tender a contract to Darren Sproles, allowing the speedy running back to test the free-agent market.

The move came four days after the team released LaDainian Tomlinson, who ranks eighth on the all-time rushing list with 12,490 yards. If the Chargers wanted to keep Sproles, they’d have to make him an offer of about $7.3 million.

• Redskins coach Mike Shana-han said Washington plans to tender Jason Campbell, its starting quarterback the past 3 1/2 seasons, before free agency begins March 5.

• Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren said it was unlikely quarterbacks Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson would both return next season.

Investigation: Chinese gymnast underage

VANCOUVER — The international gymnastics officials who cleared China’s team of age violations during the Beijing Games now say the country should return an Olympics bronze medal it won 10 years ago because one of its athletes was only 14 at the time. Gymnasts must be 16 during the Olympic year to compete.

The International Gymnastics Federation “canceled” all of Dong Fangxiao‘s results from the 2000 Sydney Games and recommended the International Olympic Committee strip the Chinese of their medal.

Yang Yun, who won a bronze on uneven bars, also was suspected of being as young as 14 in Sydney, but there was insufficient evidence to prove her age had been falsified. FIG, instead, gave her a warning.

The United States finished fourth in Sydney.

• The Detroit Red Wings placed forward Kirk Maltby (shoulder) on long-term injured reserve and activated defenseman Andreas Lilja (concussion), who is expected to make his season debut Monday against the Avalanche.

• DirecTV, DISH Network and Verizon FiOS have agreed to carry Fox Soccer Plus when the network launches Monday.
