“Green Earth Guide: Traveling Naturally in Spain” ($15.95, North Atlantic Books) is author Dorian Yates’ second in this series, the first being the same type of green guide to France. The main thing that strikes me about “green” books is that if the environment is really the main concern, it probably would be better to be more comprehensive. This one is slim for something that’s trying to offer both general travel info and green info, and in the end it winds up offering way too little of the formerwhich means you’ll need another guide to really get around (and more trees must die). It does have a fair number of listings of vegetarian eateries, day spas that specialize in natural products and meditation centers, farms and other interesting sites to check out that are organic and focused on sustainability or feature some other form of green cred, but the book’s layout detracts from the material. The listings are lost in what appears to be endless narrative barely broken up by tiny, gray maps. It needs more bolded subheads and bite-sized chunks so travelers can refer back quickly and easily while on the move.
