A man accused of wounding two students at Deer Creek Middle School with a rifle last week will face felony attempted-murder and assault charges in Jefferson County, based on a court hearing Tuesday morning.
Bruco Strong Eagle Eastwood, 32, has been jailed in Golden under a $1 million bond since his arrest after he was tackled by a teacher and others outside the school on Feb. 23.
District Attorney Scott Storey also charged Eastwood with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury — because of wounds to students Matthew Thieu and Reagan Weber — and with unlawful possession of a gun on school grounds, which also is a felony.
Eastwood went to the school in the early 1990s. His father has said he suffers from mental illness and was despondent over his debts and lack of a job.
Prosecutors are seeking to keep under seal an arrest affidavit that lays out the evidence against Eastwood, because investigators are still talking to witnesses and releasing details to the public could affect witnesses statements, according to 9News.
Jefferson County Judge Thomas Vance said he would consider the request and make a decision later.
