IBM has laid off an undisclosed number of workers at its Boulder campus as part of a nationwide “resource action,” employees are reporting.
But “Big Blue” is mum on how many, what positions or why.
“We continually remix our skills and structure to meet the changing needs of our clients,” said IBM spokesman Doug Shelton, who declined to provide specific counts.
A website run by the Communications Workers of America reported more than 2,400 IBM jobs were eliminated nationwide as of Tuesday.
IBM has about 2,800 people on the payroll in Boulder, making it the city’s largest private employer. In December, IBM said it would add 500 jobs in Boulder.
Shelton said that to his knowledge, those plans remain in place.
IBM hasn’t provided the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment with a WARN notice, which is required for larger layoffs, said spokesman Bill Thoennes.
Besides Boulder, IBM workers are reporting job cuts in Rochester, Minn.; Beaverton, Ore.; Burlington, Vt.; Nashville, Tenn.; Atlanta; Tucson; Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Littleton, Mass.; San Jose, Calif.; and Raleigh, N.C.
