Two University of Denver basketball players, senior Nate Rohnert and sophomore Kaetlyn Murdoch, received first-team all-Sun Belt Conference honors Tuesday.

Rohnert, a former Chaparral High School standout, was named to the first team for the second straight year, becoming the second Pioneer to earn that distinction (Yemi Nicholson, 2004-05). Rohnert ranks ninth in the conference in scoring at 14.9 points per game and fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.8).

Murdoch is fifth in the nation in field-goal percentage at 62.5 and leads DU in scoring at 15.7 per game. Junior Britteni Rice was named to the second team.

Wyoming receives basketball commitment.

A junior college player who grabs an average of 14.5 rebounds a game has given an oral commitment to attend Wyoming.

Brian Gibson is a freshman at Delgado Community College in New Orleans. Delgado coach Tommy Smith says Gibson is happy about deciding to attend Wyoming. Smith says the 6-foot-8 forward is a team captain and one of its leaders and also boasts a grade-point average over 3.0.

Smith describes Gibson as a “little raw” but with a knack for rebounding. Gibson has had highs this season of 27 rebounds in one game and five blocks in another. Gibson is the third player to commit to the ‘Pokes. The Cowboys have one more scholarship left.

Falcons baseball team opens with rout.

The Air Force baseball team opened its home schedule with an offensive outburst, belting 20 hits, 10 for extra bases, in a 15-5 win over Colorado Christian at Falcon Field.

Left fielder Ben Ausburn had a bases-loaded triple for the Falcons (2-6).

AFA’s Dudley gymnast of the week.

Despite a loss by her team, Air Force sophomore Jenna Dudley was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation gymnast of the week for posting two career bests, in the floor exercise and the all-around, in the Falcons’ loss to No. 18 Denver.
