When the market for bigger homes began sliding last year, designers at Lennar went to work creating a new collection of 3-and-4-bedroom homes that would deliver the same roomy feel, at a much lower price. That series has a grand opening Mar. 6-7…and it’s no surprise that many people who’ve already visited are from bigger, denser subdivisions than what you’ll see at Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course in Castle Rock.

“They love that the neighborhood feels more open, lower density,” says Lennar’s Jeff Ellis, who along with Marc Gonzales will be on hand today at Red Hawk for the grand opening of Lennar’s Heartland Series.

Buyers (five pre-sold since Jan. 1) also like the tax base here, Ellis says, saving considerably over what they were paying in their older neighborhoods further north. The new models…two Heartland designs and one super-sized plan from Lennar’s Colorado Series…all come with 3-car garage and basements plated 9-feet-high for future finish. Prices are from the mid-$300s…and if you buy now, Lennar will give you a scratch-off card that will reveal a free $3,000 option, toward backyard landscaping, or closing costs, or $3,000 off the price.

Options aside, these all come with a sense of space well beyond what these prices would buy a year ago. Heartland designs were an immediate success when they opened late last year in Lennar’s Beacon Pointe neighborhood off E-470. “They show how we’ve responded to the market,” says Director of Sales Jennifer Kimball. “They still feel like homes that builders were offering at $100,000 higher last year.”

One thing that hasn’t changed is Red Hawk Ridge…served by new, nearby Douglas County Schools at all three levels, along with Castle Rock’s very attractive recreational amenities and shopping mix, and Wilcox Street’s ‘old Colorado’ restaurants. The three models are surrounded by seven lots that you’ll have to see to appreciate…views from Long’s Peak and the Rampart Range, across the Plum Creek Valley. Residents, adds Ellis, walk to the clubhouse for burgers and a beer at day’s end…and have views of the lights when they return home.

First home you’ll tour is a “Pennington,” 2,448 feet plus the 3-car, from the $360s; with study, big master with large walk-in closet and vaulted ceiling; two sizable kids bedrooms off a Jack-n-Jill; and a big pantry, mudroom and laundry room off the kitchen. Easiest way in (they have refreshments today) is via the Meadows Parkway exit from I-25; head west 1.7 mile to Low Meadow; turn left to Black Canyon and watch for the prominent models at the top of the hill.
