FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A Canadian company has increased its estimate of the amount of uranium it could recover from a proposed northeast Colorado project by 1.5 million pounds.
Powertech Uranium Corp. of Vancouver, British Columbia, said late last month it has now identified 12.7 million pounds of uranium at the site.
Powertech President Richard Clement says the increase was due to the purchase of 3,500 acres from local landowners last summer.
Powertech has proposed using in-situ mining at the Colorado site in Weld County. Treated water would be pumped underground to dissolve the uranium, which is pumped to the surface.
The project hasn’t yet received all the state and federal permits it needs.
