A grass fire Saturday morning south of Byers scorched 35 acres and came within 15 yards of two homes before being extinguished, according to Byers Fire Chief Jerry Whited.
Authorities said the cause of the fire was an unauthorized trash burn. The fire burned along Arapahoe County Roads 181 and 34.
Firefighters from Byers, Strasburg and Bennett helped put the grass fire out.
