DENVER—Denver city officials are studying the possibility of replacing bus lines on Colfax Avenue with streetcars within the next 10 years.

Department of Public Works officials say the streetcars could reduce congestion because they can carry twice the number of passengers as some buses. City Council President Jeanne Robb says the streetcars could also revitalize the Colfax corridor.

The proposal, which has not been finalized, was discussed Thursday.

Officials estimate it could cost about $110 million to replace the buses with streetcars. The proposal calls for one streetcar line from downtown Denver to Quebec Street on east Colfax Avenue.
