TUCSON, Ariz.—Left-hander Joe Beimel has returned to the Colorado Rockies, agreeing to a minor league contract pending a physical.

With left-hander Franklin Morales likely to start the season as the closer while Huston Street recovers from right shoulder inflammation, Beimel could give manager Jim Tracy the option of a second left-handed reliever in addition to Randy Flores.

Beimel, who turns 33 on April 19, was acquired by Colorado from Washington on July 31 and went 0-1 with a 4.02 ERA in 26 games and 15 2-3 innings. He then became a free agent.

Beimel had gone 1-5 with a 3.40 ERA in 45 games for the Nationals.
