GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A judge has delayed the trial for a man accused of killing a Grand Junction mother and daughter in 1975.

Sixty-five-year-old Jerry Nemnich of Longmont was to go to trial April 19 on charges including first-degree murder. A judge on Tuesday delayed that until October following a request from Nemnich’s public defenders.

Prosecutors have said a new round of DNA testing generated new evidence in the case.

Nemnich has pleaded not guilty to killing 24-year-old Linda Benson and her 5-year-old daughter, Kelley, in 1975. Authorities say Nemnich is tied to their deaths through DNA evidence.
