It’s been a long, emotional and tumultuous road for Nuggets coach George Karl, as he battles neck and throat cancer. But he has just eight more radiations and one more chemotherapy session remaining.
Karl likely won’t return to the Nuggets’ bench until closer to mid-April, when the playoffs start. The Nuggets’ regular-season finale is April 13, and the playoffs begin April 18.
On Sunday, Karl’s life partner, Kim Van Deraa, blogged that the end of the treatments “are in sight — eight more radiations and one more chemo(therapy) session. George is looking forward to the recovery process — we know it won’t be easy but we are ready to finish the fight. George’s mouth is in a lot of pain, so we just try to keep him comfortable by managing the pain with his meds.”
