A man on a motorcycle trying to elude a motorcycle police officer in Colorado Springs crashed his bike and was taken to a local hospital, police said.

The incident happened at about 1:35 p.m. Monday on South Powers Boulevard, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department online blotter.

Police said a motorcycle officer was enforcing traffic when he saw a motorcycle speeding south on Powers.

The driver of the motorcycle sped up “and made evasive maneuvers” as the officer pursued, police said.

The driver of the fleeing motorcycle lost control of the bike on an off-ramp and crashed into a curb.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The unidentified 44-year-old man was “conscious and alert at the scene,” police said. He suffered leg and hip injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital.

As police did an “inventory search” of the man’s motorcycle they found methamphetamine and marijuana, according to the blotter.

The suspect faces possible charges of felony eluding, possession of drugs, and traffic charges, police said.
