DENVER—A Denver attorney has been publicly censured for misrepresentations.

The Colorado Attorney Regulation Counsel recommended the censure for Willie Shepherd, and a presiding disciplinary judge approved it Monday. The judge ordered Shepherd to pay $127.50 in investigative costs.

Shepherd issued a statement apologizing.

Court documents say that while seeking potential clients, Shepherd sent e-mails in 2007 and 2008 overstating the minority and female ownership at Kamlet, Shepherd & Reichert, where he once worked.

Shepherd also was accused of telling President Barack Obama’s transition team he was a co-chair of a gubernatorial transition team and a mayoral transition team. He was involved on such teams but wasn’t a co-chair.
