DENVER—A 53-year-old arrested in Kansas is accused in the 1980 rape and stabbing death of a Denver woman.
Denver prosecutors said Tuesday investigators used DNA evidence to connect Roderick Elias to the killing of 22-year-old Kristen Kay Swanson. Her body was found in the front seat of a 1968 Chevy Malibu the morning of Oct. 28, 1980.
Prosecutors say a man matching Elias’ description was seen outside the Denver disco club where Swanson worked the night before her death and that the man was seen leaning into the car where Swanson’s body was later found.
Elias was arrested Tuesday in Topeka, Kan. He faces first-degree murder charges. Court dates will be set when he is extradited to Denver.
