Native Union has created a line of handset adapters for mobile phones that can’t quite decide whether they are retro or futuristic. Either way, many people are likely to find a Moshi Moshi 02 line an improvement over shouting into a tiny mobile phone.

What the company did was take an old-fashioned landline handset, add a bit of Euro-design pizzazz, and adapt it so you could attach it to a mobile phone through a standard 3.5-mm plug. A USB adapter can also be used for attaching the handset to a computer for VoIP chats. Two models connect wirelessly by Bluetooth.

The sets come in a variety of colors and are available in high gloss or a soft-to-the-touch matte finish. The models that don’t have a built-in dock come with a silicone mat for your cellphone, to avoid scratches while lying on a table.

The simplest of the handsets sells for $60, and a more advanced handset speakerphone is $200. They become available at Amazon on April 15, the company said. Roy Furchgott
