Only five years after moving to Division I, the Rochester Institute of Technology is in college hockey’s Frozen Four for the first time.

The Tigers stunned perennial powers Denver and New Hampshire last week in the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament and are riding a 12-game winning streak heading into Thursday’s national semifinal against Wisconsin at Ford Field in Detroit.

RIT won national championships in Division II and Division III in the 1980s and is seeking a rare trifecta—winning a championship at a third level.

Coach Wayne Wilson has some title experience on his side. He was a member of the Bowling Green team that captured the memorable 1984 national championship in Lake Placid, winning in four overtimes over Minnesota Duluth.
