The driver of an RTD bus involved in a Saturday accident that killed two people and injured many others faces 13 misdemeanor charges, police said this evening.
On Saturday, a bus operated by 30-year-old Tideneykiyalesh Hawariyat of Aurora, a driver for Veolia Transportation, a private provider of transit service for RTD, ran through a red light at Eighth Avenue and Lincoln in Denver, according to witnesses, hitting two other vehicles.
Lt. Matt Murray, a Denver Police spokesman, said Tuesday evening that Hawariyat has been charged with 11 counts of careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury and two counts of careless driving resulting in death.
All of the charges are misdemeanors, so she won’t be arrested, Murray said.
He could not say whether she had been released from the hospital but noted her attorney was served with notice of the charges earlier this evening.
The two people who died were Carla Miranda, 28, and Dustin Peletier, 29, both of Denver.
