A United Airlines regional express flight from Denver to Oklahoma City returned to Denver International Airport this afternoon after pilots noticed a crack in their windshield, an airline spokesman said.

The cause of the crack was not known.

“It didn’t hit any birds, so we’re not sure,” said United spokesman Mike Trevino.

The smaller regional jet’s original departure was 1:30 p.m., but turned back about 20 minutes into the flight.

The flight was cancelled and passengers were accommodated on other flights, Trevino said. He did not know how many passengers had been onboard.
