A man arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a teenage girl staying in his apartment may have assaulted other victims, police said.

David J. Lawrence, 30, was arrested Monday after a four-month investigation into allegations that he had “sexual contact” with a 13-year-old girl, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Investigators suspect Lawrence assaulted the girl more than 20 times over an extended period.

The investigation unfolded after police responded on Nov. 19 to an apartment in the 300 block of East Brookside Street to check on a report of “runaway juvenile,” according to the police department blotter.

Officers investigating the runaway report received information about an alleged sexual assault on a child, and detectives with the “crimes against children” unit were assigned the case.

Investigators suspect Lawrence of supplying alcohol, marijuana and “possibly methamphetamine” to the victim “when she was staying within his apartment.”

Lawrence was arrested at work and booked into the El Paso County Jail on suspicion of sexual assault on a child – pattern of abuse, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Investigators “believe that there may be additional victims of sexual abuse linked to Lawrence,” police said.

Anyone with information about possible additional victims is asked to call police at 719 444-7000.
