MEXICO CITY — An attacker threw an explosive device over the wall at the U.S. consulate in Nuevo Laredo, breaking windows and startling employees inside but causing no injuries, the U.S. Embassy said Saturday.
The 11:30 p.m. Friday attack is under investigation, an embassy spokesman said.
Nuevo Laredo, across the Rio Grande from Laredo, Texas, and other cities have seen more violence in recent weeks as powerful drug cartels battle over control of lucrative trafficking along the border.
