DENVER—Police say an officer shot and killed a man who was armed with a meat cleaver and threatened officers.

Denver authorities have identified the man as 35-year-old Zak Edward Reeves of Denver. The medical examiner says Reeves died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police spokesman Sonny Jackson says the shooting happened early Wednesday after officers responded to a report of a family disturbance. Jackson says the man armed with the meat cleaver confronted officers.

Jackson says one officer fired a non-lethal rubber ball to stop the man but he kept heading toward officers. One officer fired a lethal round.
