CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo.—A collie and a chihuahua are safe after climbing out of a 500-foot mine shaft.
Teller County sheriff’s animal-control officers tried coaxing the dogs out of the Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mine with food, treats and water to no avail. Officials decided against sending a rescue team into the Ironclad Mine because of safety concerns. It was unclear how long the dogs were in the mine.
Thursday morning, a worker spotted the two dogs that had climbed out overnight. The dogs’ owners have been cited for letting their dogs run loose.
