A man found guilty Friday of repeatedly having sex with a child did not hang around for the jury’s verdict. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Richard Carl Heeringa, 54, was convicted of 17 counts of child-sex assault after the Douglas County jury deliberated for one day in the two-week trial.
According to the charges, Heeringa molested the girl from 2005 to 2007 before she went to her mother, who contacted authorities. Court records indicted the girl was younger than 15 at the time of the offenses.
Heeringa is a habitual sex offender previously found guilty of sex charges in Denver and Kalamazoo, Mich. He was indicted on similar charges in Jefferson County last month, records show.
Heeringa faces a mandatory sentence of indeterminate length before Judge Paul King.
According to the Colorado Sex Offenders Registry, Heeringa’s last known address is 2686 W. Bates Ave. in Denver. He is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs 180 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.
