BOULDER, Colo.—The University of Colorado has reportedly turned to homegrown talent to lead its men’s basketball team in picking Tad Boyle to replace Jeff Bzdelik as head coach.

The Camera is reporting that Boyle, coach of Northern Colorado’s basketball team the past four seasons, will be introduced as the new head coach at a news conference Monday afternoon.

Boyle played basketball at Greeley Central High School and played at Kansas under coach Larry Brown. Boyle later coached at Longmont High School before beginning his NCAA coaching career in 1994, serving as an assistant coach in Oregon, director of basketball operations in Tennessee, and assistant coach at Jacksonville and Wichita State.

Bzdelik left CU earlier this month to become head coach at Wake Forest.

While at Northern Colorado, Boyle compiled a 56-66 overall record, finishing with a 25-8 record this year and a second place finish in the Big Sky Conference, earning several honors including the Sporting News Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year.

Boyle is a native of Greeley. After earning a bachelor of science degree in business administration at Kansas and before coaching, Boyle worked in the financial sector for several years in Boulder.
