COLORADO SPRINGS — Two neighbors saved an elderly couple whose west-side home exploded into flames this morning.
Rick Parker and Elizabeth Daniels, owner of Daniels Chevrolet, raced to the burning home in the 2200 block of Constellation Drive, soon after the fire broke out about 7:40 a.m. They helped rescue the couple who lived at the home and checked to make sure no one else was inside.
“It was one of those things where you don’t know what you’re going to do until you find yourself in that situation,” said Parker. “I couldn’t walk away from it.”
A woman in the home was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Her husband also was taken to the hospital. Firefighters said their injuries did not appear to be serious.
The fire gutted and charred the second story of the home, which is owned by Taylor and Gayle Russell, according to El Paso County assessor’s records. Firefighters are still investigating what caused the fire and how much damage was done.
