DENVER—A 49-year-old Denver man has filed a lawsuit alleging he was sexually abused by a priest in the 1970s.
The suit filed Wednesday in Denver District Court alleges Mark Matson, then a rector in Glendale and a member of the Theatine religious order, abused the man in 1976. The man says he was a student at St. Andrew’s Seminary when the abuse happened. The suit names the religious order.
A message left at St. Andrews was not immediately returned.
Matson had faced charges in Colorado for alleged abuse in 1988 but prosecutors dropped that case. Matson was also acquitted of charges of fondling a youth in California in 1989.
Matson was convicted in 2000 for allegedly fondling a 13-year-old boy in Hawaii and is now serving a 20-year prison sentence.
