University of Colorado tight end Riar Geer and Air Force defensive lineman Ben Garland were among the 19 undrafted rookies signed by the Broncos on Monday.
Those players will join the Broncos’ nine draft picks for a rookies-only minicamp starting Friday. On the list are six players who play in the front seven, including Brian Bosworth’s nephew, Korey Bosworth.
Geer started 37 games in his career at CU and was a first-team all-Big 12 selection in 2009. Garland started every game for the Falcons and had 4 1/2 sacks in 2009.
Undrafted rookies have a challenge in making any NFL team’s 53-man roster, but it has happened in Denver. Nose tackle Chris Baker made the team out of training camp last year, and cornerback Tony Carter made the active roster by December. Three undrafted players made the team in 2008, including linebacker Wesley Woodyard and offensive tackle Tyler Polumbus, who have played significant minutes the past two seasons.
Up to eight of these new players could make the Broncos’ practice squad.
