The son of a South Metro Fire Rescue employee has been arrested for allegedly stealing drugs from the South Metro Fire Rescue administration building.

Brian John Neafus, Jr., 22, used an employee access card to enter the building, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Once inside the building, investigators allege that Neafus stole several packages of Versed, morphine, Valium and Fentanyl.

Neafus was identified by reviewing the building keycard reader and the building’s surveillance tapes.

Sheriff’s deputies and members of the South Metro Drug Task Force set up surveillance of Neafus’ residence and arrested him when he left the home.

At the time of his arrest, Neafus was in possession of a portion of the stolen narcotics, investigators said.

There was only one vial of the stolen narcotics that was not recovered and it is presumed Neafus may have used the missing drug, the release said.

Neafus is being held for investigation of second-degree burglary, misdemeanor theft, and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

Robinson said Neafus is being held at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility.
