Before Zak Reeves was fatally shot April 14 by a Denver police officer, Reeves told his wife he wouldn’t be taken alive and he was going to kiss his kids goodbye. He also knelt and prayed, Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey said in a letter clearing the officer who fired the fatal shot.

Denver police were called to the Reeves residence in the 2700 block of Ulster Street about 1:45 a.m. April 14, after Reeves’ wife phoned 911 and said her husband was behaving erratically in the home with her and her three children.

The district attorney said Reeves’ conduct before the officers arrived and during their contact with him “suggest an intention on his part to force them to shoot him.”
