BRECKENRIDGE, Colo.—Summit County prosecutors say they won’t file charges against a man who was reportedly loading a semiautomatic weapon in a pickup outside Summit County High School because the report was exaggerated.
District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said Wednesday authorities found an unloaded .22-caliber hunting rifle in the man’s pickup, but no ammunition and no semiautomatic weapon.
The man’s name hasn’t been released. Police said earlier he was at the school to pick up his daughter, a student.
Two students made the report on Monday, prompting a lockdown at several schools and extra surveillance for after-school activities. Other activities were canceled.
