A pilot who ran from the scene of a crash-landing at Boulder Municipal Airport on Wednesday morning returned to meet with investigators, and it’s unclear whether he was ticketed.

According to witnesses and investigators, 67-year- old Joe Curtis’ single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza 35 skidded off a runway and across Independence Road, hitting a car and shearing off a wing against a utility pole.

The pilot then grabbed a large black satchel from inside the plane and ran from the scene, ignoring another pilot’s attempt to get him to stop, according to witnesses and investigators.

Ken and Carol Marcoux of Gunbarrel were driving east on Independence just before noon. They said the descending Beechcraft seemed to be having trouble with crosswinds when it slammed onto the runway, bounced, then veered 45 degrees to the north and headed toward their car.

Carol Marcoux screamed, “Ken!” — and he stepped on the gas, getting enough out of the way that the plane hit the back of their Toyota Prius.
