Police on the Auraria campus in downtown Denver are looking for someone who discharged a handgun in a woman’s bathroom stall.

The incident happened about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, and no one was hit by the single shot, said Blaine Nickeson, an Auraria spokesman.

“We believe a handgun was accidently discharged in a bathroom stall,” Nickeson said. “Whoever the person was fled the scene.”

The gun was fired about 4 inches above the floor, and the bullet lodged into drywall, according to a campus bulletin.

Police are trying to contact a possible witness. The witness is described as a white woman between the ages of 18 and 21. She is about 5-feet-5-inches tall with blond hair.

The campus bans weapons. Auraria is home to Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver and the University of Colorado Denver. Kieran Nicholson, The Denver Post
