The Regional Transportation District reopened West Sixth Avenue east of Simms Street and Union Boulevard on Sunday morning — a day earlier than expected — after completing work on a light-rail bridge in half the anticipated time.
Crews built the 1.2-million-pound bridge beside the road over the past few months to minimize traffic delays on the artery. The bridge was put into place between 2:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The lanes were originally scheduled to open at 5:30 a.m. today, but work on the bridge across Sixth took 14 hours rather than 30.
