A woman, her baby and the family’s pet rabbit were able to escape a fire in a duplex in the 3100 block of South Fox Street in Englewood this morning.
The attic of the duplex caught fire about 9:30 a.m. and the woman immediately called for help, said Marla Wilcox, spokeswoman for the Englewood Fire Department.
Wilcox said Englewood sent three fire engines and were assisted by the Littleton and Sheridan Fire Departments, which sent one engine each.
Wilcox said a total of 22 firefighters were at the scene.
The fire was out by 10:10 a.m, she said.
She said the woman and the baby were taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure but did not appear to have any injuries.
Wilcox said the duplex is uninhabitable and fire investigators are currently trying to determine how the fire started.
The American Red Cross Mile High Chapter is on hand to assist the family.
Because of firehoses crossing nearby streets, South Galapago Street and West Darmouth Avenue were closed to traffic, said Wilcox. The streets had reopened by 11:30 a.m.
