Nuggets coach George Karl is expected to return home from a hospital today, according to his son, Coby. Karl was admitted to the hospital over the weekend because of a blood clot in his leg.
Coach Karl had a previous scare with a blood clot in March when he was rushed to the hospital. Karl is trying to recover from the effects of radiation treatment used to fight throat and neck cancer.
“I’ve seen him the last three days in the hospital . . . They’re trying to get drugs in his body so he won’t have any more blood clots,” Coby Karl said Monday. “For the most part, he’s doing fine. He looks extremely healthy but is frustrated with going back to the hospital.”
Asked whether Coach Karl, 58, would be involved with the Nuggets’ summer activities and be back for next season, Coby Karl said: “I thought he was getting healthier and I would think that’s the plan, but if stuff like this continues, obviously you’ll never know what could happen. I think he’ll be healthy enough to be around the organization.”
Coby Karl said his dad didn’t watch a lot of the Nuggets’ series against the Jazz, which Utah won in six games.
“If things started going wrong, he’d turn it off just to keep his stress levels down,” he said.
