BANGKOK — New violence erupted in the Thai capital Friday night, likely jeopardizing what had seemed like progress to resolving a sometimes bloody two-month standoff between the government and protesters who are seeking new elections.
Protesters seeking the prime minister’s ouster haggled Friday over terms of a government reconciliation plan that could end their protracted demonstrations.
But late Friday, the sense of relative calm was disturbed by a mysterious incident near where grenades exploded April 22. About two hours later, more explosions could be heard. A police officer died in the violence.
