BOULDER, Colo.—A football coach from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas who used to work with the University of Montana team was arrested in Colorado for allegedly breaking into a bar bouncer’s car and taking a handgun and a wallet.

The bouncer told Boulder police his items were taken early Saturday, hours after he refused to allow 31-year-old Tyler Gregorak to enter a bar the night before because he appeared too intoxicated. The bouncer told police Gregorak later went to his home to apologize and return his .45-caliber Glock 36 handgun and wallet.

“I was really drunk, I’m from out of town, I’m just here visiting friends, I’m a professional, I don’t do this kind of stuff,” Gregorak said, according to the police report. Police also said Gregorak believes he was drugged and that he doesn’t remember the bar bouncer or entering his car.

Gregorak said he woke up in his hotel to find the gun and wallet and didn’t know how he got them.

Gregorak surrendered to police Tuesday and was released on $2,500 bond. He is expected in court Thursday and prosecutors could file charges then, which could include first-degree trespassing and prohibited weapons possession because he had been drinking.

Gregorak played linebacker for the University of Colorado in 1997-99.

He joined UNLV late last year to work as the linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator after six years as linebackers coach at the University of Montana.

UNLV athletic director Jim Livengood said in a statement Friday that the university is investigating the allegations against Gregorak.

“It would be premature and inappropriate to comment any further until this matter has been reviewed and resolved,” Livengood said.
